Modules Outline - Level 1
Word Processor Training Centre
- This section should be completed when the student first accesses the program.
- Skills are developed here so that students are able to effectively complete activities in the different Locations
Mountain Trails - Grammar
- Identify and name major parts of a sentence
- Use modifiers, including prepositional phrases, correctly and with increasing effectiveness
- Use a variety of sentence structures
- Know and apply conventions in Simple, compound and complex sentences
- Use a variety of subordinate clauses correctly and appropriately for their purposes
Mountain Trails - Punctuation
- Use periods consistently after initials, after abbreviations containing lower-case letters and in decimal numbers
- Use parentheses appropriately
Mountain Trails - Spelling and Vocabulary
- Know spelling conventions and apply them to familiar and unfamiliar words
- Use and spell correctly the vocabulary for these grades
- Spell a wide variety of commonly used word
- Identify some generalizations about spelling and use them to spell difficult and unfamiliar words
- Use a variety of resources to spell difficult and unfamiliar words
- Understand the vocabulary and language structures appropriate for this grade
Haunted Mansion - Writers Block( Poetry)
The tutorial focuses on narrative elements of plot setting and character. They complete a variety of activities including a detailed plot graph.
Poet Tree Café
This tutorial focuses on poetic devices (Alliteration, Onomatopoeia, Simily, Metaphor, and Personification)
- Creating song lyrics for accompany music
- Creation of a parody of a nursery rhyme, and childhood memory poem
- Writing a dramatic monologue
The Theatre
Focuses on script writing, how to write a dialogue for a play.
- The writing process is followed as students compose a monologue and play script

This section focuses on writing skills for the real World of work.
- Memo – Form and structure

Focus is placed on linking paragraphs and using a variety of sentence structures
Radio Factory
- Identify various types of media works
- Create a variety of media works
- Analyze and interpret media works

- Produce media texts using writing and materials from other media
- Use special terminology
- Describe the function of different elements in various media
- Rehearse and revise materials to prepare for presentations
